Welcome!

Dear Etholoists, Behaviorists and All Animal Lovers,

Animal behavior is substantially related to movement; therefore video recording has become an indispensable tool in ethological research and documentation. My intention is to collect such recordings and present their most interesting fragments here. These archives, I hope, will be a source for comparisons of a breath taking array of animal behaviors, which can be used as inspiration for further studies or in an illustrative way, for non-commercial, educational purposes. I propose two kinds of video recordings:

(1) video documentary clips -documented behavioral acts of all sorts that attract attention because of their novelty or unusual circumstances, or video supplements to an ethological phenomenon described elsewhere in a journal article or book, with reference to its source

(2) video articles - a video clip supported with documentation required for a scientific paper; the clip together with the text forms an integral paper submitted for review and acceptance procedures.

The male weevils Dorytomus longimanus have markedly elongated front legs, nearly twice as long as those of females. This suggests that this "?morphologically exaggerated" trait had been under the influence of sexual selection To learn if this trait has been shaped by intersexual kind of selection (persuasion or coercion) I confronted a female gnawing a whole into a poplar bud with a male. The clip shows clearly persuasive use of front legs directed to female reflective response. First a male vibrated vigorously the legs in front of the female drumming on the bud. Then he did the the same for a wile upon mounting the female. Finally the female enabled the male to copulate. It is evident from this confrontation that elongated legs can enhance courtship intensity, and evolutionary had beenbe shaped by "female choice" in this weevil
